You dig?
Started my new job on Tuesday and got the early off yesterday which was nice! I went to see Dig! - a film that I've been wanting to see for ages. It was rather long - but seeing as it documents seven years of band hell (mainly) it was utterly compulsive viewing. It is about 2 then un-signed bands - The Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
It charts the rise and rise of the Dandy's and the spectacular near success and terrible fall of T B Jonestown Massacre. It's actually really tragic in parts and I personally think TBJM were/are a better band. Due to lead singer Anton Letcombe's tortured genius unpredictability the whole thing caved in rather drastically. It's worth going to see. Looks llike TBJM are now back on track although with a different line-up from the original. They are currently on a tour of UK and US.

Hey Astrid, what happened to your punk documentary? When are we going to make a documentary together? What about going to find all the actual punks rather than the 'stars'. I always wondered what happened to all those people who used to hang out down the Kings Road. Or how about doing one on the beginning of the internet, cos that's all I know about really - what happened to all those people ... etc, etc.
Oh, and what is your new job???
The BBC really liked my punk idea and sat on it for nearly 6 weeks. Finally it was being bandied about their specialist factual dept but guess what? They've got a few punk ideas in the pipeline so after much consideration they said no.
I'll keep trying - haven't heard from C4 or C5 - don't expect to. Have just sent off three more ideas - one of which was shortlisted for ITV last month so I am hopefully in with a chance there. Its about a blogger. I can't say anymore than that at the moment.
My new job is back in the land of production. I am producing commercials for TV. I am working exclusively for one director. I've had a really crap day and I'm feeling like a bad mother. I had to call a mother of one of Harry's friends to take him back to her house at the last minute as I was stuck in nightmare situation from hell at work. Terrible for me - great for Harry - he got to play with his friend and have fun. But I felt guilty. I think it's because I have spent the last 7 months mainly writing and occ directing 24/7 from home. Being propelled back into the land of high octane commercials was suddenly quite a shock today. Plus I feel the impending wrench as he is starting school in Sept. Blab blab blab. I'm feeling very sorry for myself and might have to go to bed to have a good cry!
Cheer up RM. When he starts school it won't be as much of a wrench as you think (well, it wasn't for us anyway with our two).
We thought it would be at first, but they get so excited and full of it, it becomes a whole new chapter to get involved in.
