This Week I......

..........made Pimiento Padron - even though I say so myself - they were utterly delicious:

Went to my Dad's and marvelled at Son of Romo's first ever experience of the guitar - a small three-stringed thing which he insisted was taken down from the wall for him to play - like a duck to water. Check out the stance! Grandpa promised to re-string it - see the new ones hanging off the end still in their packet. It will have to be strung for a lefty it seems.

listening to music whilst trying to pick out the key by ear

Then we went for a walk and saw this being displayed in the window of the Hackney Gazette HQ, Cambridge Heath Rd.

Incredible.

Strung for a leftie? He looks as though he's holding it in a right handed way, unless you've flipped the angle of the photograph.

He's a natural, make him go electric and buy him a big f*ck-off Marshall stack. Pissing off the neighbours is great fun.

he's really gorgeous, your little lad! my son's doing 'rock school' this week at a local college - culminating in a concert on friday - it was fab last year. brace yourself for an earsplitting future!
(poster - ewwwww! perfectly encapsulates the prurience, prudery and prejudice of the brit press)
hope you're feeling ok - sounds like you've been doing loads. take care xxx

Ister - Well, he is left-handed/left-footed/left everything and played both ways - these are the pics with the right-handed way. Maybe we will just leave it right-handed for now or check it again before it is re-strung. It's nice that he seems to have an ear for music - picks out notes on the keyboard too.

Rivergirlie - oh my goodness - Rockschool - have you purchased any industrial ear muff yet? Yes - if I was the editor of the Hackney Gazette I might have had second thoughts about running that strapline on that particular edition! Yes - been doing loads as a sort of 'reaction' I think and to get out of the house - having a fairly quiet weekend. Thank you xx

I played guitar for about eight years and never looked so natural. Probably because it didn't feel that way.

He's already got the looks and the hairdo - is he now going to be known as The Rockson (aka RoSo?)

So now will you please get your drum kit and set it up in the garage?
He'll thank you for it when he's older!

Hackney Gazette - ha!

Son of RoMo - I have to agree with previous commentors, the kid's a natural!

Geoffster - ditto - I'm only really good at air guitar - can't play a note on the real thing

Bettster - RoMoSo I reckon - was caught liberally applying Stella Macartney perfume onto his bare chest and singing infront of the bathroom mirror yesterday (age 6 - heaven help me!)

Arabella - good idea - I love loud noise if it is played properly

Annie - Hackney Gazette - incredible. Will do - going away for two weeks soon - back on 21st - perhaps when back? xx

Her Firstness - thank you - yes - he's a lovely squidgetboy and being so good what with all the disruption to our lives - he amazes me....

Billy - maybe - we'll see - he likes the piano too - listens to music and picks out the basic notes by ear

Pianos are good also, but not as portable. My problem was that I learnt how to read music too early. That coupled with my natural laziness means I'm rubbish at playing by ear, which is an excellent skill to have.

Billy - I remember being sat on three telephone directories to reach the piano age 5. I was really bad at practising and most infuriatingly somehow played perfectly each week the the teacher turned up much to my mother's annoyance. I was made to read music which I didn't like and it killed it for me. I gave up although still muck around on it now and again using my ear.

I'm sure the peppers taste loads nicer than they look (a bit like seaweed if you'll excuse me saying).

I'm another of the play-by-ear mob, or I was. I'm hopeless at reading music, but I used to play recorder by ear and memory. Never got further than picking out a few tunes on keyboards though - just too lazy!

Llewtrah - yes - I was in two minds about posting the peppers up as I photographed them without a flash and it doesn't really do them justice. I can assure you they were delicious. Hope you are well x
